INTELLIGENCE
§ Compiled by : Pradeep Apte
Let us inquire into what intelligence is. Is thought, our thinking, the usual way we live by the world an activity of intelligence ? A part of intelligence is to explore the false and thereby uncover it, then there is truth which is intelligence
You are always concerned with effects or results that you want to change or modify
·You never inquire deeply into the cause of these effects
All your ways of thought and activity have a
* Cause
* Ground
* Motive
* Reason
·If the CAUSE were to END then
·WHAT IS BEYOND ?
Has intelligence a cause ?
Thought has cause
Thought being the outcome of knowledge is
Partial Fragmented
Limited Insufficient
Now let us penetrate that which may be difficult
·From cause to effect is a MOVEMENT IN TIME
·The interval or effect maybe immediate or postponed
Is intelligence a movement in time ?
·Examine this, not as a verbal clarification but perceive the reality or truth of it
The effect can be ended with the ending of the cause
If the cause for TB is cured the effects like cough and loss of blood would go
One’s life is the movement of cause and effect
·Is there a life or way of living without causation ?
·But first the implications of ENDING have to be understood
What is it to END ?
Is ENDING a continuation ?
One ends something and begins something else - which is another form of the same thing
Going deep one has to understand the conflict of opposites
·One wants to end greed to be something else of which greed is the cause
·One wants to end violence and become non-violent
·But there is no real ending except the translation of the feeling into another feeling
The process goes on and if we understand this matter carefully it may affect our daily life and
END ALL CONFLICT
Our consciousness is the result of thought
·Thought is subject to causation
·Therefore consciousness is subject to causation
Can this causation be ended willingly by a desire to have a orderly life ?
If one does, then that life is born out of causation - because one is disorderly
Discovering the disorderliness in one’s life and wishing to have an orderly life is in the chain of causation, one sees, therefore, that it will not be orderly
The conflict between the various opposites is disorder
·Can the desire for order end disorder completely in our life ?
The cause of the opposite is its own opposite
·Not to hate is the outcome of one’s hate
·If there is no hate it has no opposite
See the FACT that thought has created disorder in the world through
·Faiths
·Ideas
·Ideologies and the like
All these are divisive and fragmented activities of thought which cannot see the whole
Discovering disorder in one’s consciousness one wants order, hoping thereby to end conflict
·There is a MOTIVE, that motive is the CAUSE of my desire to have an orderly life
The desire for order born out of disorder perpetuates disorder, which is happening in all fields of life
The cause for disorder is the desire for order, the effect being disorder again
·Now one does not move away from the cause or effect
One sees that one is the cause and one is the effect and any movement from that would lead to disorder
So is there an ending of ‘what is,’ that is disorder, without projecting a future demand for order ?
The observing of disorder and ending of it without a cause ?
All human beings are violent, the cause of it is essentially a self -centered movement
·One is violent and so is the other, both being self-centered there is a battle between us
The pursuit of thought towards non-violence hasn’t worked so we are concerned with violence only, the main cause for which is definitely: THE SELF
The self has many aspects, it hides behind many ideas
·The idealist wants to kill for a better world
·If the cause - self - wouldn’t be, then would there ever be violence ?
Our life is conditioned by many causes. Is there a way of living, psychologically, without a single cause ?
It is a marvelous inquiry, even to put that question demands some deep searching
In search of psychological security one clings to various things, but is there psychological security ever?
·The very putting of the question is an outcome of intelligence
·If there is a cause for security, it is not secure, because the desire for security is the opposite of security
Has love a cause ? We said intelligence has no cause, it is intelligence, not your or my intelligence
·Like light is light not your light or my light
If love has no cause then love and intelligence go together
·If your love for anybody had a cause it would go when the cause has gone
Due to fear there is a demand for security and due to the vast weight of tradition and the sacred books one loves or believes in god without knowing anything about him
But in the discovery that intelligence is security and love is beyond causation , there is order
·Then the universe is open - because the universe is order
Now what is intelligent relationship? Not the one contrived by thought which is ever mechanical
·Due to freedom of choice thought believes itself to be free but it is never so
The human brain being conditioned has its own mechanical intelligence
·Thought, which is born of memory, knowledge, stored in the brain is mechanical
·It can invent but not create
We are asking : is there an intelligence which has no cause and which can act in our relationships - not the mechanical state of relationship that exists now ? Presently in relationships, intimate or otherwise there is always a cause, a motive
·That is mechanical. It has been happening for millennia
This relationship is always limited as it is a product of thought
·whenever there is limitation there must be conflict
This conflict exists because thought is fragmented, limited and always isolating itself
This is a LAW, it is obviously so
·See the reality of it, the actuality of the fact, not as an idea but something that is happening in one’s active daily life !
Is there an approach to the fact without a motive ?
·If so, how are you looking at the fact ?
·The fact is not different from you, you are the fact
You are ambitious, you are hate, you depend on somebody, you are that
·Is is possible to observe yourself without any motive or reason ?
·If you do not do that you live perpetually in conflict
Your conditioning may tell you that it is inevitable. But when you see the absurdity of all this you realize that this travail is yourself
YOU ARE THE ENEMY !
Now you have met the enemy so can you observe -
* This whole movement of ‘me’ or the self ?
* The traditional acceptance that you are separate ?
These become foolish when you examine the whole field of human consciousness
You have come to the point in understanding what intelligence and love are
Obviously both have no cause, if they have they are not so
Are you looking at the fact that you are thinking, working, feeling in isolation that must inevitably breed everlasting conflict ?
That isolation is yourself,
You are the enemy
When you look at yourself without a motive, is there self ? - self as the cause and the effect, self as a result of time, which is a movement from cause to effect ?
When you look at yourself, look at this fact, without a cause
THEN THERE IS THE ENDING OF SOMETHING AND THE BEGINNING OF SOMETHING NEW

"There is no such thing as freedom of thought. It is sheer nonsense."
